As I mentioned before, with more and more importers conforming to the KCMA (Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association) building standards, some of the RTA Kitchen Cabinets or Stock kitchen cabinets can actually be a sturdier cabinet than the traditional, made to order cabinets. Regardless of what type of kitchen cabinet you decide to go with, it does not take much effort to spend tens of thousands of dollars on the actual kitchen cabinets.

Most kitchen cabinet manufacturers build their kitchen base and wall cabinets in standard sizes. The kitchen base cabinets are often 34.5 inches tall and 24 inches deep. They come in widths starting at 12 inches and can go up to 48 inches often in increasing width increments of 3 inches. Kitchen wall cabinets are often 12 inches deep and 30 inches or 42 inches tall. They also come in the same size widths as the base cabinets. Wall cabinets also come in several different heights and depths for locations such as over the refrigerator or over the microwave/hood range unit. With custom kitchen cabinets, you have even more choices available, since the kitchen cabinets will be created specifically for your kitchen space.

Different semi-custom kitchen cabinet manufacturers make different-sized kitchen cabinets for all sorts of special looks and situations. It is not uncommon to have one cabinet extend beyond adjacent cabinets to create a distinguished look. It pays to shop around to see all of the different possibilities and special cabinet features offered by the custom and semi-custom kitchen cabinet manufacturers.

One of the biggest advantages to true custom kitchen cabinets is the ability to make one giant base or wall kitchen cabinet instead of separate boxes that are screwed together by the installer at the jobsite. A custom-cabinet maker can easily make one giant base cabinet 8 feet long that installs as if it were a piece of furniture. The same is true for wall kitchen cabinets. The advantage of this method is the lack of vertical seams where two traditional cabinet boxes would mate up to one another.

Pay particular attention to the materials used to build the kitchen cabinets. Some kitchen cabinets are made with minimal-quality engineered lumber, particleboard, or fiberboard. . If you plan to load a wall cabinet with heavy traditional china, the weight of the dishes may cause the cabinet to pull apart over time. This is particularly true when it comes to the semi-custom cabinets that the name brand cabinet manufacturers sell at the big box stores (which is why price is not always an accurate gauge of cabinet quality). Many of the RTA Kitchen Cabinet manufacturers use solid plywood sides, which obviously creates a strong kitchen cabinet box than a particleboard or fiberboard box. When it comes to custom cabinets, the material choices are endless and can usually be specified by the customer.

Another factor that will determine the price of kitchen cabinets is the material used to hold it together. Custom kitchen cabinet manufacturers will often use a combination of dovetailed joints, wood biscuits, and glue to create tight joints. Mid-grade kitchen cabinets will have a wide range of materials holding them together (staples and nails on the lower end, to cam lock assembly and wood glue on the higher end). Most RTA Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers utilize the cam lock system, which creates a nice sturdy cabinet, and when enhanced with wood glue, can last a life time. Steer away from any kitchen cabinets that are using staples, wooden dowels, or just screws. The strength of the cabinet will be compromised at the joints with these weaker joining materials.

More and More contractors like myself are having to travel for work.

I can honestly say as long as there going to pay top dollar I would be there. The economy is not that great right now and people in are home town just don’t wish to spend for quality home renovations and Improvements.

I have found that are Toronto based clientele are always willing to have us there and are happy when they see us show up on time. There are so many contractors in Toronto now! Well Maybe. Last year I read an article in a business magazine about contractors in Toronto.

I article said that more than half of the Home Renovations Guy’s there are just some lay-off worker with NO liability insurance. I even tested the fact! I had a client in Richmond Hill Ontario, I already new I would get the job but I told her to get a few estimates first.

She did not really wish to do that but I wanted to see what these guy’s are charging. I looked at 4 different estimates from 4 so called home renovation companies. 1 of the contractors was a good friend of mine that I have worked on other jobs with before.

! good contractor that was insured that is what I found. The other guy’s where way less in price and 2 of them did not even give them a copy of there insurance. The other one gave a copy of his car insurance and said he was insured. WOW!

If the insurance doesn’t say skilled trades policy there not insured bottom line. Most contractors have a least one master trade. If one guy gives you a price and the other guy’s give you something totally way off that price you need to check a little farther.

The bylaw officers in Toronto should be out there enforcing these permits. Another thing permits is up to the customers. If a contractor tell you you don’t need em! He is not a good contractor. If the contractor tell you you should have permits!

He is probably a contractor that is good. I don’t like running around getting permits but if the customers want the permits I’ll get them. Just like many things in our society it takes a while before it hits main stream. Things of this nature usually start with the rich and wealthy and then move on from there.

For the most part these famous interior designers gained their fame through the usual means of achieving fame, through the TV. They appeared in numerous Television home improvement programs, and they held numerous, televised DIY (Do It Yourself) programs and fundamentally got their face well recognized to the public. And that’s how famous interior designers of the last decade of the twentieth c achieved more than a meek fame.

There are of course more famous interior designers than the ones you see on TV. Others who might be television camera timid. And could very often be just as good as or even better at what they do than the more media savvy interior decorators. As I said earlier, there are sure to be a bundle in this category and we will never know about them. Ones who decorate the famous, such as George Clooney, Jerry Rice and the like.

Then there are the famous interior designers who have been about for what seems like forever and a day and who have made a family name for themselves through their relentless efforts. Yes, it isn’t all play, many times it is long hours to get to that place of fame.These interior decorators are much lauded in their world and are the pundits from whom the new generation of interior decorators learn their craft. Many of these “Old School” decorators if you will are now teaching their trade.

So as you look for the names of famous interior designers you need to understand and accept that you won’t be able to find all of them just because you look through interior magazines. Sometimes these famous interior designers like to keep their celebrity under raps. Working behind the scenes, so to speak, and enjoying life without all the paparazzi.

Famous interior designers aren’t host, but there are a sizable number of them, and they all have gifts of talent and one thing in common. They have a good eye for design and decorating and they can put together a room to make the very best out of all its features. Ok, so that was two things they all have in common! Just remember, you could one day walk right past a famous interior designer and not even know it.

The food prep zone is the area of the kitchen where you slice and dice. If your kitchen is spacious enough to accommodate an island cabinet, the food prep zone would be well placed there. It’s helpful to include another sink for rinsing fruits and vegetables, as well as including a refrigerator drawer for milk and eggs if your main refrigerator isn’t easily accessible.

Kitchen Zone Three: Cooking Zone
The cooking zone is always a hot place to be. The kitchen’s cooking zone is where fire enters the picture. Centered around the range or cook top, this is the spot where stir-fry, spaghetti, and sauces and steaks  sizzle. You may want to keep your microwave and toaster oven here as well.

Shallow drawers for pot lids
Spice drawer (or cleverly hidden racks in pull outs)
Microwave cabinet for concealing and saving countertop space

Kitchen Zone Four: Cleaning Zone
Next to your sink and dishwasher, the cleaning area of the kitchen is the home of water and washing.  Keep “water dependent products” like your coffeemaker and salad spinner nearby. You’ll also be emptying the last bits of lasagna and soup into containers here, so keep storage supplies nearby. Include space for an adequate number of cleaning and drying supplies, as well as a convenient way to store clean dishware.

Include:
Pullout rack for dishtowels
Plate rack for storing daily or occasional dinnerware
Under sink pullout for dish washing detergent and cleaner
Tilt out sink tray for sponges. Drawer for aluminum foil, paper, and plastic wrap storage
Pullout drawer for Tupperware, divided for lids and containers
 
Although not directly involved in the four zones of the kitchen remember the “dining zone.” There is more flexibility involved with designing your eating area, however do consider adding easily accessible storage for tablecloths, place-mats, napkins, or infrequently used chinaware.
